Ringing Noise

I recently inherited a '93 Toyota 4x4 short bed with 55K miles. It makes a squealing or ringing noise when the clutch is let out from a dead stop or when the engine is shut off.

I say ringing because it sounds like it's coming from something metallic rather than a belt. The noise lasts less than a second when the clutch is let out and lasts several seconds when the engine is shut off.

Any ideas on where to start?

Not sure why it doesn't do it whenever you shift but could be the clutch release bearing or the pilot bearing in the flywheel. For both the trans has to come out -- and unless heavy trailer was towed its probably too early to justify $/work to replace clutch disc (usually last 90k miles). Maybe it will go away as you drive it more since with that mileage it wasn't driven often (I suspect)..
