Screeching noise 1989 SR5

I have a Toyota SR5 long bed, 6 cylinder, 2-wheel drive, 1989, manual transmission and 145,000 miles. Recently, I noticed a screeching noise coming from the rear. This specifically happens when accelerating or decelerating. If I disengage the engine by pressing on the clutch pedal, then the noise vanishes, thus indicating that the rear wheels and/or the rear breaks are not the source of the problem. I checked the oil level in the differential and it is OK. Any advice where to look? Thanks. Gene

Sounds like a u-joint or possibly the throw-out bearing and it's transmitting sound to rear of truck. I'd start by checking both u-joints, especially the rear. HTH, davidj92

Check it out. heres wats wrong. I learned this from my dads tractor.... its loud as hell when the clutch is out, even if its in neutral.... once you put the clutch in.. bam... no noise... the sound is your transmission.... after the clutch.... lube it!
