Strange Tool Disappearance--Tundra 2004

I was installing a new battery in my 2004 Tundra today, and the shiny socket (2" long and 1" in dia." from the wrench fell into the motor area near the battery. I heard it rattle down, and then nothing. I looked on the sandy ground below, and found nothing. I tried my best to find it in the engine compartment using a light, but nothing. It's not easy to see in all places. I drove it onto the driveway, and made sudden stops and starts, but nothing fell out. Any suggestions? I'll likely take it to my mechanic tomorrow and see if he has any clue. My guess is that it jammed into some location.

got a magnet? i use one for that on the end of a small pole. gets into those odd spaces that seem to have no reason.

Every thing I've dropped near the front of the engine compartment has ended up in the skid plate.

Indeed the magnet is the way to go. An especially useful magnet is one on a long flexible shaft. Agree the skid plate is a logical place to look. It catches a lot of stuff that drops down. As a last resort try dropping an old bolt in the same place and see where it goes. Repeat as often as necessary. Sounds improbable but that trick has worked for me in the past. Good luck. Al

What's that?

Too much metal in there. Maybe a mirror on a pole. Maybe I need to hit a good bump.

Dropping is worth a try. Maybe it'll even clang against the socket!

It's the plate under the engine that protects it. It's also the thing you have to remove to get to the oil filter.
