Tacoma or Canyon/Colorado

Previous Tacoma owner 1995 Ext Cab. Sold years ago. Great truck. Looking at getting back into the truck market. Need a double cab. Leaning towards Tacoma 2WD Double Cab but am intrigued with look/drive of the GMC Canyon. I've read good reviews of the Canyon but still somewhat leery. I know what I"m getting with Toyota.

Also, since I"m not an offroader is there any need to get the TRD package? Read somehwere that some owners felt like it drove smoother than without. Thanks

You read good reviews about the Colorado probably because of the heavy influence that GM has with the magazines that publish them. I would lean toward the manufacturer that has a proven track record, Toyota.

In a few more months the new Tacoma will be out. It looks similar to the GMC. I'd go with a Toyota.

GM is crap. Plus it's a first year model (Canyon). You do not need to shell out the extra money for the TRD package if you do not go offroad. If you like the look of the 4x4 and don't want to pay for it, have a look at the Pre Runner model of the Tacoma. It's got the height and bigger wheels of the 4x4.

I just purchased a 2004 tacoma prerunner double cab, with TRD, about 2 months ago. At the time I was considering the dodge dakota, a GMC canyon or the tacoma. After a test drive of each I found the tacoma to be a lot more responsive and comfortable, a lot of owners describe these trucks as 'fun' to drive and after owning one for a while I understand what they mean. The colorado/canyon has a great look to it, lots of power, but I didn't find it at all comfortable to drive.

The TRD package seems to make these trucks ride rougher than without, from what I found after test driving some of the 4x4 extra cabs with and without the TRD package. Not sure if this is the same situation for the 2wd's. Even so the difference isn't very significant. If you go with a tacoma the TRD is worth getting just for the appearance it give the truck.

Some things to note before you make up your mind, I ultimately went with the tacoma for toyotas reputation, reliability and quality. As I've posted in some other threads I've had problems with this truck, it was in for repair of defects 3 times to date and there is only 3400 km on the odo. It had spent a total of about 14 days in the shop in the first six weeks I had it.

Did they give you a loaner to drive everytime ,while yours was in the shop?

Did they ding your truck while it was in there shop or parking lot?
