I've read on other boards that replacing the thermostat with one of a lower temp rating can produce more power. Is this true? If so how? What would be a good temp to put in?

Raising the temperature will produce more power...for a very short while. All the heat removed by the cooling system is heat that is not working to expand the combustion gases and push the pistons down and the crankshaft around. No cooling would be the best, but of course, the oils can't handle the heat and would then allow metal-to-metal contact and destruction of the engine. One of these days there may be super efficient and super powerful ceramic engines that can handle the heat; 'til then we need to cool.
You'll get the best, cleanest, most trouble-free operation with the stock temperature.

Thanks for the info. I'll stay stock
