Tire recommendations ....

Hi All, I haven't followed this newsgroup for a while but would like opinions on tires for my wife's '92 Fourunner. She's been on BFG ATs for the last 120k kms (75,000 mi) but just put a rock through one and its time for a new set. I've only ever used these tires on the family truck/SUVs and have always been happy with the wear/performance but the new KOs are a little pricey.

We're planning on keeping the vehicle and will pass it on to the kids to drive so longevity is important. The tire shop that said her flat was beyond repair recommended Hankook 236s (don't know anything about these) which are $50/tire cheaper than the BFGs. Her driving is mainly on-road these days but winter roads can be a challenge in this neighbourhood.

Any advise is much appreciated so thanks for taking the time.

I'd go with the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's. I've read and talked to a lot of people who rave on this tire. In fact, I'm getting some put on my 98 4X4 Runner this week. The tread life may not be as good as the Michelin LTX/MS, (500) but from what I'm told, these tires beat the heck out of the Michelin's. They are also a bit less expensive. Good luck.

Nope, Goodyear is a US company. Uniroyal and BF Goodrich are owned by Michelin.

How about the people in the US who work at the Michelin, Uniroyal, and BF Goodrich tire factories? Should they ake something else?

I am just concerned that when people decide they want to punish the French, that they might end up hurting a lot of good Americans. How would you like it if people said you shouldn't buy Toyotas becasue Toyota is a Japanese company?

Ed, people do this all the time, Toyota is the 3rd largest automaker on the planet. How many times have you heard this "buy American" already in this group? While they run out and buy the Mexican built Ford, I drive an American made Tacoma. I say if they want to run out and buy something else, let them, then they will realize Toyota wasnt such a bad deal afterall. We appeciate your concern for those who are to stupid to figure out what to buy on their own, but if we needed a nanny, we'd hire one. With the internet, folks can do all their homework in the comforts of their home. I do it with just about every purchase I make anymore.
