toyota tundra wiring for a trailer

I have a four pin connection on my 2002 Tundra to a trailer.(3 male and one female pins) My trailer is a boat trailer with its own braking system (hydraulic and electrical.) Does anybody know how I can convert my connection from 4 to 5 wires (which the trailer is.) Right now when i try to back up the wheels on the trailer lock any help would be appreciated

Do the trailer brakes lock up because the trailer has electric brakes and someone wired the backup light circuit to them?

Or because the trailer has surge brakes and you haven't pulled the little lockout lever on the tongue brake control coupler?

If you will be towing things with electric brakes regularly, go to a trailer supply store with a repair center, and get a Bargman or Pollak

7-pin or 9-pin Travel Trailer Std. connector installed and wired on the car. They have a dedicated pin for the electric brakes and backup lights, so the two do not mix.

Then you can get an adapter that plugs into the car's socket and converts back to the Flat 4-pin used on the utility trailer.

And be careful when installing a brake controller - especially with ABS you want to be Very Careful hooking up if it has a hydraulic pressure tap on the brake system. I know the pedal cover pressure sensor is a PITA, and the pendulum inertia sensors aren't much better, but it beats having the car's brakes totally fail.
