Trac Lock any good?

I drive my 92 4x4 pickup mostly on the street and muddy roads. No serious off road stuff. That's what the jeep is for. Anyway, I called Randy's Ring and Pinion and they say I can use the Trac Lock in the front as well as the back and the truck will be as safe on icy roads as it is now with open differentials. Anybody here have any experience with these? Thank You, Eric

Probably just the opposite. With open differentials one wheel spins and you go nowhere. With any sort of limited slip or locker differentials, if traction is equal under both tires, both spin and you go sideways.

For icy roads, you need connection between the tires and the road. This is either chains or real winter tires with the snowflake on the mountain symbol. If you're on lots of ice, use studs, altho modern studless real winter tires are very good.

Detroit says the Trac Lock will give better traction on snow or ice. Do you have any direct experience with Trac Lock? I'm dubious. I know that a Posi, for example, is NOT good for snow or ice on paved roads. The Trac Lock is not supposed to have this problem. ERS
