1967 Bug rear brake type 3 conversion.

Ok, I didn't do it, some PO to me did. 1967 bug, type3 rear brake conversion, T3 front discs.

I stripped the splines off the drive side the other day, went to the local FLAPS, got a new type3 hub, drove 50 miles to the middle of the woods, and I'll be danged if it wasn't too long. [delete long "comedy of errors" type of stories, where I spend a lot of time driving around doing stuff.]

  1. Does anyone know if there is a difference in LENGTH between a 68 and later T3 hub for the rear, and a 1967 and earlier T3 hub?

  1. If the answer to #1 is "No", is there a good source to get the hubs for them that will actually work on a 1967 beetle with stock axle length?

Thanks, as usual.

Eric, The type III brake drum has a "spout" roughly 5/8" longer than a type I. Take the new drum to any good machine shop abd have them mill .062" off. this will allow your shorter axles to reach far enough through to get the castle nut properly seated. Remember this nut is torqed to 220 ft/lbs and cotter pinned.
