1972 vw autostick issues when shifting

Try looking at vwar.org for helpful technical autostick info.
Try looking at thesamba.com for parts.
Also, consider joining a local vw club. Many vw people consider the autostick a pariah and convert it to manual! So, may be free or relatively cheap used parts you may be able to finagle out of the club members.
