a/c for the bug

Does anyone know of a company that still makes an air conditioner kit for air cooled VW's ? I would like to install one in my 65' Bug, but can't seem to find anyone that still makes them. Any help would be appreciated.................

I'm interested too... and also would like to know how they hold up in high performance engines that spool up FAST, and rev up to 8000rpms... I'm thinking of playing with pulley ratios to slow the compressor down, if it's too slow at idle I can live with it, as long as it won't grenade on me when I stomp on the gas pedal... otherwise I'll need to fabricate a throttle position sensor that disconnects the clutch after 1/2 throttle or something.. lol

Oh yea the darn thing should fit in teh engine bay with dual carbs... ouch

I requested info from Gilmore enterprise a couple weeks ago but never heard back from them. Thanks for the tip though. Terry

For about $500 you can get the "Cheap Aviation Air Conditioning" system. it's basically an ice chest with a fan that parks on the back seat of your airplane. Considering A/C systems for small airplanes run about $25,000, it's a bargain. It should work for a bug.

I was just thinking of getting a large Peltier device, a couple heatsinks, fan and a piece of duct hose. No need for ice then.

How keul! :)

I have yet to drag out the two window Swamp Coolers I have. It's just too damned wet here. :(

I had a friend who cut some pieces from a swamp cooler pad and duct-taped them over the vents of his Vega, then squirted them occasionally with a squirt bottle.
