Air Filter Deck Lid Clearance problem

Hi,

I having a bit of a problem with the air filter in my 1500cc 1968 Type 1 (duel air inlet type).

As I understand it normally you can just pop the top off the air filter and check the level of oil in the filter.

But after putting my engine back in I don't seem to have enough clearance between the air filter and the inside of the decklid to fully remove the air filter cover. (it's also a bit of a tight squeeze popping the back clips off as they scrape against the fan housing)

I have tried shifting the position of the decklid on it's hinges but to no avail.

I only probably need to find another 1/4 or 1/2 and inch at the most to get it off. I'm just unsure of what I have moved to stop it coming off.

Any pointers of help would be most appreciated.

Cheers Spike

Oh I should add, as far as I know everything is stock in my engine bay.

Take the aircleaner off before popping it open.

Sorry am a bit lost here what do I take off? It's an oil bath type cleaner.

once I pop the clips, I don't have enough clearance to get the lid off to put any oil in.

Ah, of course. It looks like you got the model that requires that either the body be lifted off or the engine dropped to change the oil-bath air cleaner. Super rare model. Yup.

Take the whole cleaner out. Don't pop the clips until the whole thing is out of the engine compartent.

Ahh, Thanks guys.

Thought I'd bacdly mucked something up when I put the engine bay back together!

A relief to know I don't have to waste any more time on trying to work out how to get it off.
