another drive day on July 30?

On Sat, 19 Jul 2003 12:05:03 -0400, "Tim Rogers" scribbled this interesting note:

Are your heads clean? Is there much casting flash on them? If there is, clean it out. And getting another head temperature gauge might not be a bad idea since things like that are occasionally very inaccurate. By way of example I've seen reports of tests done on kitchen oven thermometers. You know, the kind you put in your oven so you can know what the temperature actually is instead of trusting the oven thermostat? These tests showed a variance of over 90 degrees between various thermometers of various brands and price ranges. In this report, the best turned out to be one of the cheapest! So I have to wonder, is your gauge accurate??? The only way to know is to test it in one way or another (pot of boiling water?)

I would volunteer to act as a moderator because I do read just about every thread out here, or at least skim them all, but I don't trust my judgement to even self-moderate my own posts so I'm not even a potential candidate. :-P

[snip] ~ So.. for the benefit of the whole group, *everyone* included, I would ~ like to receive a group blessing for starting temporary moderation in ~ this group.

Yeah okay.

[snip] ~ Oh yea, since ANT has not been around to take care of bizniz, I will ~ hereby de-throne him and once again claim the group King throne. Anyone ~ against it? Anyone feel it should be someone else? Vote? ~ ;)

He's not serving his people very well, I definitely vote you in as King again hehe :o)

.............It's an almost new (14k miles) Gene Berg 1678 with new 040 heads, new Brazilian case, lightened flywheel, Berg heavy pulley, machine in

88 cylinders (the compression is really strong!), counter-weighted crankshaft, stock L-Jetronic FI, stock camshaft, stock exhaust system, remote oil filter with full flow system, new connecting rods, balanced, etc., etc. It'll do 90+ mph without trying very hard but I'm too chicken to take it to 100 mph.......so far..... There are no oil leaks anywhere and it looks like the cooling fins on the heads are cleaner than most 14k mile engines from what I know.

................That's why I'm thinking of buying an IR meter. One thing that baffles the crap out of me is that the head temps appear to be almost

50 deg lower on a hot day...........WTF?

Moderated or unmoderated doesn't make much diff to me. I just kill file people and threads now. Keeps the BS down to a minimum.

And yep, I will clarify. 67 bug, 72 ghia. Yep.

I moderateds a local sex talk grroup for several years. We needed it moderated for the obvious sex offer spam it got. What we did it to build a while/black list system and mostly let the scripts auto-moderate.

I worked very well until I fed up and passed the torch to younger generations and the new moderators never dedicated enough time to the task and the grroup died...

Its difficult for a moderatoed grgoup to survive with a very dedicated moderator...

How about moving this part of the thread to it's own thread so those who are ignoring the battle of wits can benefit from it

I never felt the need for a kill file until this last year or so. Not much in it but it does help.

I can't drive our Beetle to work. My extension ladder, compressors, drop cloths, shovels, push brooms, hoses, pneumatic equipment, etc. just won't all fit!:~(

But I do drive our Beetle (one of them) any time I wish. Which isn't a lot lately since it is hot and my swamp cooler still is not in working order!:~(

I do understand about not being able to drive an ACVW since there are several in the driveway and only one is safe to drive!:~) The Thing is now registered and insured, but I still don't drive it because I haven't done a complete inspection on the brakes, etc.

If you want to drive your car and it is safe, do so by all means!

I'm not a frequent poster here, but I have been around for about eight or nine years so far. Please moderate things. One of the great things about RAMVA has been that it was a central point for a large group of aircooled people. Too many flame wars drive people away to other areas, which fragments the group. A number of small groups just isn't the same as a large group, so I would encourage moderating, and also encourage people to stick with RAMVA.
