Before There Were Web Based Forums

I got a new laptop and had to go and find Ramva to put in my favorite places. When searching for it, I came across Googles stats for Ramva from day one until now. It also lists the Ramva hall of fame top posters of all time. Jan still is number one. Here is the link.

I still like Ramva where no one person is the owner of the forum

Some of those figures are curious. The number of posts in July 2000 was

7273. That number wasn't surpassed until January 2002 and never got that high again after April 2002. From what I have heard, ISP's started dropping newsgroups about then. It's been downhill for RAMVA since, as far as traffic goes.

Jan is the Babe Ruth of RAMVA with 15092 posts (10693 + 4399 at two addresses). I don't see any posts by him before August 1996.

LOL if there's a way to look up my OTHER two email addresses I used, you would find even more. I was a quiet lurker for a good while. I think I was around when the vw group was split to water and air? I can't remember. I read it from school and did not want to write anything for fear of leaving traces and getting caught :D

I just spent a brief moment reading some OLD stuff on here. Good times.

I love you guys! LOL

The "King" title was intended to be passed on from individual to individual, it wasn't supposed to stay in one place. This was to promote/reward participation and helping others, not selfishly keeping "the Crown" for perpetuity.

I love Jan, but c'mon.....

This is why when I had it, then got busy with "other stuff", I passed it on to another worthy member of RAMVA.

Hey now, I never really fought to keep it, it just sort of stuck.... at one point it was largely based on post count too, which said nothing of the quality of the poster's contributions. A considerable number of my posts were very brief and to the point, such as "LOL" or "ROTFLMAO: :D

I did do my fair share of helping others with valuable contributions too, but there were easily a dozen more people just as worthy or more so of the title.

I even offered to pass it on and tried to get rid of it, but nobody wanted it! HA!

:D

It's the royal responsibilities and demands and stress that comes with the title that scared them off, I'm sure.

Seems the newsgroups were just a little work to find, set up your newsreader and etc, kept some of the riff-raff out.

Everything worthwhile I ever got was from RAMVA, the new forums just reguritate most of it with "know-it-all" spin.

"And the words of the prophets are written on a subway walk"?

All this talk of love makes me want to look up a "Social worker" newsgroup.!.
