bent axle beam

Hello everyone,

Just bought a sandrail with a kingpin frontend and a 1600cc engine. This is my first VW based car. I got it for a good price but after getting home discovered that the drivers side front suspension is binded up from a dent in the axle beam and is slightly bent. I took a loook around and see that I can buy a replacement for around $175. I would prefer to be able to fix this axle beam if possible. I am thinking I will take the unit apart and try to remove teh dent and straightening the tube. Anyone have any advice or can point me in the right direction for info on doing this?

Thanks

Just a thought, ...........maybe you could braze a piece of metal to the dent and hook a puller up to it and "pull " the dent out, thus clearing the innards...........I'd certainly be trying it if no ther major issues exist.................

If the beam has a bend to it, (bow) then I'd replace it..........but just a dent , I'd pull.
