by-pass oil filters

Some of you know I use Franz by-pass filters on my vw's and some other vehicles. They were popular in the 70's and late 60's with adapter hardware for vw engines. They do super job of filtering and use toilet paper for filters so the price is right on using them. Anyway

10 years ago I was able to purchase 5 of them from an estate of a guy who was a dealer in them. Three were opened in the box and two were sealed in the box. Anyway I opened the two remaining boxed ones yesterday and found two that I only read about before. The first was made for saltwater marine use and canbium (? sp) bronze protected. The next one was very heavy and 100% triple chrome plated. These were mostly used on flathead ford hot rods that were chrome detailed in the late 60's. Anyway this beauty will look perfect in the Puma. I don't know what the point of this post is except I am still a lucky bastard and maybe we all should check out our sealed inventory just to be sure if it is NOS. Dennis

By-pass filters can do some good, a toilet paper based unit I would not trust..

I've put over 500,000 miles on vehicles with these filters. I like clean oil. Anyway they work. I was sharing my good "luck", not asking for opinions from those who have no personal experience using the filters but since you did give your opinions I must say that I wouldn't wipe my butt with anyones gizmo either. Just please don't tell me you use Charmin. I don't think I could take the idea of Mr. Whipple having a secret life wrenching ACVWs.

Den - I'm sending you a quick email to touch base.

Actually the cheap toilet paper rolls from Aldi's seem to work the best....Seems again a "hats off" to German engineering. Dennis
