Gas / Bugs - looking better

Gas is only $2.99.99 here, but I've had two inquires already about the Bug I keep covered in the driveway. These are coming from the parents of college students who aren't really quite old enough to remember that these things are not the MPG champs they seem to think they are.

WTF? I've been offered $4k already. I'm going to hold out.

I had a guy come up to me at a gas station and said..... Yep I used to have one of those and it got 45-60 miles per gallon. He must have remembered filling up his old beetle when gas was 29 Cents per gallon or something. It would have cost less than $3.00 to fill it up then. I am guessing that a 1500-1600 bug would get 27-29 mpg. Cars today have an EPA rating of what their city and hwy mileage is. The Beetle engine is designed differently than other engines and has to run at a certain speed so the fan can help keep the engine cool. I wonder if an aircooled Beetle gets much better mpg on the highway.

............I can get almost 30 mpg on the hwy if I keep it down to 65 mph. Maybe 25 around town. My L-Jetronic setup is probably a little better than a carbureted engine for gas mileage.

My 2165 gets an easy 30mpg cruising in 4th, but ... well that's another story.

45 - 60? That's nothing, this guy made a few simple adjustments and now gets almost unlimited milage using a mixture of alfalfa hay and water...

don't know right off hand...usually the only time i'm doing 80 would be on some lonely mountain road...so no time to look at speedo and tach...LOL....but on highway about 70-75 i'm at 5800-6000RPM or so....

I decided to sell my '72 Sat. I put it in the front yard with a For Sale sign on it Sunday morning, then went out to do some errands.

When I got back to the house I had 15 calls on the answering machine. Before I could even call these people back one of them showed back up at the door. I had the car priced at $3900.00 and he offered me $4500.00.

It suprised me so much that I forgot to get the garage door clicker out of the car and had to call the guy to bring it back out to me.

I'm gonna miss that little car.:-(
