Getting the doors off

Hi

I have been trying to get the door off my 68 beetle, but those screws just dont want to turn. A few of us have had a go with the impact driver and a big hammer now, but they still won't move. Would it be easier to take the hinge pins out and remove the doors that way (anyone have a howto on removing them? :) ) or should I just leave them on there since it was just something I wanted to take off before removing the body to replace the floor pans.

Thanks.

Leave the doors on.

Or prepare to weld in a brace between lower door hinge and bottom of B pillar.

get a bigger hammer...lol you can try spraying PB baster from the back side. I have removed dozens of doors and know thy can be a fight but I have never had one beat me yet. just keep working on them and prepare to get new screws.

if the impact driver doesn't work it is not being held tightly against the screw...if you don't hold it tight the thing kinda "bounces" and does nothing... JT

I use a 1/2" air impact wrench ( since there's no bearing involved I can't see the harm) and a #4 phillips bit attached via the 1/2"to3/8" adapter..............works very well. All Impact pices , never use

*non* impact driver pieces with the drivers...........they kinda shatter real easy.

Using an impact driver can (not 'will') cause a re-alignment of the doors. The best method, IMHO, is to use a socket wrench jacked lightly against the screw just to get it started, then remove with just the wrench.
