Heater Cable Problem

So I'm trying to run new heater cables to my heater boxes (79 Vert) and I can't get the cable to the driver's side box through the conduit. It hangs up in the tube near whre it comes out through the tunnel to the plastic hose before it gets to the heater box. The old cable came out fine and I can get a cable, minus the end piece through as well. I can't figure out why it is binding. This is primarily a summer car and the left cable snapped so I figured it was a good idea to change it now before winter and storage time. What a PITA. Any ideas on how to free up the binding? There is no visible, exterior rust and everything looks fine. It always amazes me how a one hour job can take three days. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. David

It is likely one of two things. Either the cable "end piece" is too long.............or it is too big around. More than likely the "too long" is the case. If it is an easy fit til that spot, all you need to do is cut off or file off some of the cable end and make sure it's smoothe on the edges..............It will slide right through.

I had the same problem. I close the end of the tube and put WD-40 from the inside for 2 days. Then I clean it with a cable. I also had to bend the end of the tube a little.

Here in the rust belt, Chicago, that tube is usually filled with a little rust. A coat hanger working in both directions helps clean out that tube. Sometimes I attach an old cut cable and attach to a drill and then allow this to rod out the tube. Yeah a rust penetrant will generally help to loosen things up too.

Did you try that cable from the other side too?

good luck later, dave (One out of many daves)
