heater cable tubs?

Okay, I bought a new heater cable for my 72' SB and I can't get it to go through. I tried putting a metal coat hanger in on the heater box ends of the tubs to possibly clean out the tubs but no lock. Does any one have any tips?

Thanks, Ben

...as a serious reply.. If the tube is indeed plugged you might try th ol roto tooter method as used on intake manifold heat risers. Chuck a length of cable (clutch or ebrake cables make good recipients if ya have an old one laying around) in a variable speed drill....start with a short length of cable as possible (a few inches extended outside after obstruction is met) for rigidity. as you break through obstructions use increasingly lengthy pieces of cable to drill your way clear. I haven't used this method for this particular job...but see know reason it wouldn't work admirabley. Patience and care are a must...

I have had issues similarly, and figured out that the end pieces they Swedged onto the cables is too long, making it impossible to follow the curves of the tubing, without binding up. I just ground a bit off the coble lug at the end till I got clearance,................took quite a bit off before they did slide through. It's worth a try .

Take a length of old single-strand (piano wire) cable and flatten the end like this so it cuts a little wider swath:

The soldershould help keep the strands from getting snagged. Turn the cablea bit as you feed in in. Max

Thanks for all who posted. Now if I only had a drill and some piano wire I'd be in good shape.
