help! "Letric problem

I have a problem I was hoping someone could help me out with.

I have a 74 std. bug. A few weeks ago we had the engine overhauled. everything was fine for a while and then the alternator died violently. we had not driven her much since having intalled that alternator. We have since found out that rather than being an alternator with an ingergrated regulator (which is what we have wired for) it this replacement had had an internal regulator. The auto parts store's claim that we could just ignore the extra prongs sticking out on top were, ahem, false. (I have some spectacular photos of the results). Now I am paranoid about alternator trubble, although we have replaced it with the correct piece.

My problem now is this, number 8 fuse constantly blows out. We re-wired the car and have had truble with 8 ever since. Stupidly, we were not as careful about checking the placement of our fuses before we ripped everything out, if I was to re-wire a car again there are some things I would do differently. Our wiring all checks agaist the Bently diagrams. Unfortunately, I am having an impossible time finding someone who knows what amperage fuses go in which placements. I have found SB layouts, but i have found that when in comes to the electrical system SB and STD are not always the same. The mechanics sugestion of just putting in a bigger fuse and hoping for the best does not appeal to me.

Any help would be great, sorry about the length. pleaes e-mail me at snipped-for-privacy@hampshire.edu

#8 Fuse only feeds the Hazard switch and the seat belt buzzer module. (It's an 8 Amp fuse.)

Tell me, what accessories no longer work when #8 fuse blows?
