I have a 69 bug and i wanted to know if SAE 40 is a good oil to bug in my bug since i live in a hot area (desert). Is it good for it? what else is good to use?

20W50, good brand mineral oil. No synthetics, no matter what they say :)

I would not use 40HD unless it stayed above 85 degrees F all the time.
There is an enthusiast in Las Vegas that uses 5W 50 Synthetic, Quaker State I think is the brand.
I would at least use 30HD.
It's probably too heavy, since even in the desert it gets cool at night. If the temp is never under 90F any time you start the car, then SAE 40 would be fine.
Otherwise, I'd just stick to 20W-40 if you can find it, or 15W-40, or
