Just joining the group

Just found this ng, hope ya'll will be able to help us out over the next little bit. We bought a '72 super beetle that needs some work and my wife wants to restore it to the point where it is reliable.

When we have specific questions, I'll ask. From what I've seen so far, this looks like a good bunch of folks. We are located south of Atlanta. Are there a bunch of SB experts here?

Welcome. Yes, the group tries to be friendly and helpful.

I think you will find a high level of expertise here on most questions. You might also join this on-line forum, or at least browse their extensive technical section:

Cool, just returned here myself after 8(?) years.

"stupid beetle" is the nick name for your bug type. ;) (you prob'ly know-ed that already)

Those that swear-by them instead of swear-at them are quick to tell you... to keep the "stupid" out, go through the front end with new bushings etc.

What service manuals you got so far? :)

A question came up in conversation lately about someone's 34 carburetor and I looked in my books and none cover them, or Super Beetles either, I had a '67 and was into dune buggies and not much else. Asked here and got the answer in one day. :)

Decided to stick around awhile. :)

What a bother. You could have bought my original pristine, red '72 and just driven it away. Now you are in for years of grief and many $$$$. Restoration of those "need work" late-model Bugs is a futile myth.

Speak for yourself. Now if a person was rebuilding a classic Bug, that might, just might be different but I'm really weary of these blokes who buy a rusted out POS with more troubles than it's worth and dreaming of "restoring" them. Ain't gonna happen.

Another name is: "Front end parts are 10 times more expensive than Real (Standard) Beetles." What's "Super" is the price of parts. Nothing else, unless a person has gobs of bucks to make it right. Then it's still a sink-hole.

Drive down south far enough, and you'll find me :) I'm near Orlando, FL.....

If you have some basic mechanic's tools, and willingness to work on the car yourself, we can help you through most of your challenges.
