kind of off topic

Does anyone know how long auto manufactures are required to make parts for a specific model? I have an 03 Nissan frontier and need to get a part from them that is not available from the after market guys.

Is this a factor in buying a GM (now Government Motors) or Chrysler car?

I think it is ten years, but note that the auto maker probably does not make the spares or original parts. In your case apparently Nissan might make it or have an exclusive contract with the actual maker - and I'll bet it is an electronics part.

FWIW, since the market failure, huge money is buying up auto parts manufacturers. Those guys make money. Prices are likely to soar.

of course VW had it's share of one yr. cars. Like 1967. Finding restoration parts for those is.......d Tell me again, how I should not complain about having such an easy time finding two sources for a 40 y.o. Ghia.
