ok need to break into 68 bug

sup guys, been while since i posted (school and all) well anyways, my key ring broke and i have lost the door key to the 68 bug im drivnign at the moment. I need to get in! I tried the whole cutting the hood handle in half trick (but yeha i know only works on the older style handle, but hey worth a shot) and now im considering drillings the button on the handle. My last resort is to jsut break one of the vent winder latches, but pain in the ass to replace, anyways, lookin for ideas without maiming anything to badly.

What did you think getting into the front hood was going to do for you? There should be an inspection plate that will let you pop the front hood. Guess you could break the glove box liner and unlock the passenger's door from there.

well if i can get into the hood (where all my toolzs are) i can take out the glove box, and roll down the window. :-P

I think a locksmith would be cheaper than all of the things you've done so far. There's a very simple trick for breaking into almost any ACVW, but I'd rather not mention it in a public forum. I will state that it takes a lot of time and attracts a lot of attention but does no damage, so you can do it safely if you own the car but a thief is probably going to be uncomfortable performing this trick in a public place.

Again, a locksmith may be cheaper than replacing hood handles and vent window latches.

this in the school

.................He might be referring to driving out the pins on the door hinges with a hammer and punch. It's no big deal talking on usenet about it. Any thief who can't figure out that bugs have external hinges is probably pc-less as well.

Or you could check with the security office at the school and see if they can't break into it for you. Most can.

I knew a guy way back in high school that broke into his parents 1969 Bug using two wire bucket handles. He went in around the weatherstripping of a wing window and actually used the wire to not only rotate/twist the latch, but then also pull it up, opening the vent window!

He was very motivated. He had locked the keys in the car several times before, and was NOT gonna call his father again for help. :-)

okay, if someone's going to post something like that, I'll proceed with the less sophisticated method. Just pound on the vent windows with your fist. You don't want to break the glass, but you want to be pretty firm with it; the latch should eventually unlock. I've yet to attempt this on an ACVW and find that the latch wouldn't slowly move inward , although it took 5-10 minutes on my squareback and only worked on one window. I thought this was pretty common knowledge, but perhaps it's less common than I'd realized.

I've had two that would do that, but I have also had a couple that wouldn't. The rst I never tried it on.

It does work though.
