Very nice! Your model business is cool too. (the "1:1 scale" reference to your bug hobby made me smile :)

I am keeping the dark blue but a solid this time and not one that fades from a green tint into the blue and I am adding a different flame pattern.

Thanks but , actually I bought the car pretty much like it is in the photos. I have made numerous changes since I got it. Most notably a new transaxle and new/rebuilt pan and front end and brakes. On the surface it looks great but the hidden parts were a real nightmare and really surprising too since the guy I got it from was a VW mechanic and worked for a local shop. As pictured it has a type 3 front end on it and IRS rear end. It now has a Rancho performance tranny, 2" dropped spindles and adjustable beam front end and brakes. I am really proud of the pan , I reconditioned it and added every seal I could find . It also has full width Lakes racer type hub caps on it now too. I haven't driven it since I put in the new pan and am real anxious to do so . I have never had a VW Bug this close to new especially with a good trany and good syncronizers. It will probably be March or April before I get to drive it again. I'll post some new photos when she gets done. I also put on some stainless 32 Ford type bumpers and they really look cool too with the verticle bend in them. They look tailor made for a VW Bug.

Merry Christmas all, Mike

That is indeed a very nice dark blue. Are you going to put on those types of flames or the more realistic ones? Recently on "Overhauling" (that show on TV with Chip Foos) they had this artist flame a car where the flames truly looked 3D with depth painted in - quite the job. Normally, I am not into flames but those looked great!

My son wants my (his) bug painted black, but I was wondering how a very slight fade from black to your color blue towards the front would look... (like blueshift, if you're into physics). I tried talking to him about a fade from black to red towards the rear (implying redshift), but he won't hear of that on account of him hating red.

It would be nice to see Chip Foose working on a beetle.

Good idea - that would be pretty cool. Thus far, I've only seen them do american cars. Let me know if you want to know where the key of my garage is, in case you convince them to steal my bug. I'll even look surprised :)

They say that it must be on running condition. anyway I think that I saw a Japanese SUV on the "Overhauling" , but I'm not sure.

Now that I am thinking about it, there wouldn't be a lot of fun in having someone else do my rustheap so don't call them to steal my it :)

It would still be fun to see them do someone's bug, though. That's one of the few TV shows I really like.
