Replacement steering wheel

Hey guys, Anybody out there seen the new replacement steering wheels they're now making? Supposed to have the colour moulded right in and made out of pvc? so they won't crack or wear through. I saw them advertised in VWT I think last month. Just wondering.

Cheers, G

Thanks for the input Dan. I was looking at it for my '60 as well. While I doubt I'll ever drive it more than occasionally and to the odd show I thought the repro wheel would suffice. If it bothered me too much I could always restore the old one, it's not THAT bad :o) Where did you get yours? I see they're advertised in JC Whitney for $170+ I think... kinda steep I guess. Could get a resto'ed one for not much more I reckon.

Cheers,

" I also have heard stories about resto wheels cracking like Ben's. That's also why I chose the new wheel.

True enough, hate to have to redo it every few years. I'll order one of the reproduction ones :o)

Thanks again,

G

Do repaired steering wheels always break down quickly? I'd like to replace my Batwing with a like new one, but a restored wheel is very spendy.

Have you actually been driving the car? Maybe all the ones seen in the mags are trailer queens that aren't driven.

The car was being ferried around to getting repaired. I probably had about

20 miles on it when it began to crack.

Maybe the best solution would be to find a good, uncracked, original wheel and repaint that one...

Most of the wheels in the UK seem to be fine, but then again, it's the perfect climate for them (cool and damp)... lol
