reverse lights?

my bug comes without reversing lights wired etc. but has a reverse light in the cluster, its just not wired. i run a 74 super. is there a way of getting these reverse lights to work? is there a switch that i can screw into the gearbox? wiring etc? and if so, are all gearboxes (including my 74) able to take a reverse light switch?

thanks Dieter

Bob all beetles after 67 have switches in the nosecone of the trannys your IRS tranny should deffenetly have one ,it is located on the right side end of the nosecone. It will have 2 spade prongs comming out of it. its hard to see, best bet is to find a tranny that is removed so you can see its location. The wires will run thru a gromit on the right side of the engine one wire should have an in line fuse then run to the positive side of the coil the other wire runs to a T and splits to run to each reverse light. you can easy find this at vintage bus .com's wiring section.

Hope this helps

He may find that his tranny has a "plug" inserted in place of the switch at the factory. Remove the plug and screw in switch P/N 211 941 521. You can find the wiring on my web site. Look under Miscellaneous: Wiring of backup lights.
