Someones got a new split window

Don't want to steal his thunder, but could not keep this one under my hat any longer. John Henry is now the proud owner of his Third VW. Pictures here.

...is that one of those remarkeably durable flat fender jobbers? As opposed to the chopper gun, late model fragile ones?? =-))

Now cut that out! I stopped -maybe a little too late, but I stopped, didn't I. No - it is not a f.f. It's a CJ5. Anybody should be able to see that! I was wondering about the "Willys" moniker though... Even though Kaiser built them, they kept the name Willys on the nomenclature for quite a few more years.I thought it was gone by '61.

BTW - Congrats to John Henry. Looks like yet another nice haul!

Ok, so I have to comment.

I like the story. It sounds very familiar. I use a '72 GMC truck as the tow vehicle and usually use a 16' trailer to haul the vehicle home. This has the added benefit of giving extra space on which to put all the extra stuff that can come with a purchase like this!:~)

I particularly like the bit about bringing your own wheels and tires. That is standard procedure around here. Also, when using the GMC truck it sometimes carries a couple of small air compressors that are great for using with air tools and for inflating tires. I was only a boy scout for a very short time, but I have learned the wisdom of their saying of "Be Prepared".

Great story.

Willys-Overland and Kaiser-Frazer merged in the early 40s, I think. Somewhere along the way, Nash and Hudson were gobbled up. Then the company became American Motors in the late 50s. Chrysler bought them out, and Daimler-Benz in turn Chrysler. Only the Jeep remains. When I was a kid my dad would point out Kaisers and Henry J.s on the road because they were so rare. I know where a brace of Hudsons was parked till not too long ago, and even now a mint Nash Metropolitan only a few miles from here.

OB split window...John, why don't you give someone else a chance? :-)

Wow, great car! A Standard model Sunroof is certainly a rare car... What's the plan with this one? Resto too?

Congrats to John! *jealous*

Oh My God!!! I'm very jealous. John Henry is a god among Volkswagen nuts. Saw his oval in person in Maine two summers ago. Can't wait to see what he does with this one!!
