stretched parking brake cables

adjust the rear brakes *first* if you still have to pull the ebrake handle way up then adjust the cables....four clicks up should hold the car in all but the most steep hills....i can pull mine maybe up to six clicks, but that is really pulling hard...the cables are adjustable at the handle, under the rubber boot...there are two...

Adjust the rear brakes AT THE BACK WHEELS FIRST. Only then should you consider a further adjustment at the E-brake lever.

If I pull the parking brake of my '72 SB all the way up, I can still move the back tire. Can the parking brake cable stretch so much, or may this be a case of badly adjusted back brakes? Ant

1) loosen the handbrake cable adjustment nuts 2) adjust rear brake shoes so close to teh drum that they drag a little (you can hear them drag but don't feel increased resistance yet) 3) now adjust the handbrake cable nuts to achieve proper cable tightness: 5-7 clicks should be where you have "full" effect and rear tires locked.
