Tune up complete

It's been a couple years since I did a tune up on my bug. Haven't put many miles on it these last couple years. Anyhow, it was time so I printed out a new copy of my procedure and it all went pretty well.

The only annoying part, really, was getting the dwell to be 50 degrees. First it was 46 then 55, then 44, then 53, etc. Finally, I got it. I really wish they'd made it so you could adjust it without taking the cap off and while it was running like some old American cars where you used a little hex wrench.

You know that some burglars who took one copy of The Scream apparently burned it up? I hear that Munch (sp?) liked to make multiple copies of his works so supposedly there are other copies of it though. It is one of the more well know works, maybe second only to the Mona Lisa.

Michael,

I feel your pain. I replaced the points on my VW with a pertonix about

5 years ago and have not had to adjust the dwell once since. I have checked the dwell about 2x a year, and it has never needed adjusting.

The pertronix costs about $50, but in my opinion it is well worth the $$. It was one of those things that I wondered why I did not do it years earlier.

And yeah - I too used to adjust points on GM cars with hex keys while the engine was running. Remember the "Uniset" Delco points w/ integral condenser vs. the 2 piece points/condeners? It's a pity VW did not use a similar set-up.
