Type 4 into Swing Axle Type 1

Howdy.

I've posted before this with little response.

I have a known 1974 Type 4 and want to put it into a 1963 Swing Axle Baja..... The tranny case has already been cleared for a 12v flywheel on the tranny.

What modifications would need to be done to the tranny to accept the Type 4 w/bus flywheel, pressure plate, clutch etc.

(I've already seen Jake Raby and Type 4 Secrets Revealed sites).

Warm Regards and thanks in advance.

Pending of the centre of the pressure plate: None. You will have to fit the T4 flywheel with a T1 pilot bearing for the ingoing axle, and the release bearing must match the style of pressure plate, it will need to have a centre ring for the bearing to press against, or you will have to fit the later release shaft/bearing to the tranny.

I believe that you also should strongly consider a test fit and break-in (oh, about 50k miles or so) on a different Type 1 '65 Beetle tranny in a '63 beetle body. Let me know and maybe we can arrange the break-in period. ;) Good luck!

Thanks...

I appreciate the smarts on this one...

I'll be contacting Jake Raby for the parts etc.... I'm chicken to let a

100hp engine twist the horns on the beast (have seen it done).

If I was braver I'd do it blind.
