Update on my '66 accident repairs

I heard from my insurance company today, and they have authorised the repairs to go ahead for my '66 after my recent accident!

There is a genuine NOS front wing on it's way from Germany, and my specialist already has an NOS RHD Hella headlamp in his store. Hopefully, I should have the car back on the road come mid-June - still waiting for the wing to arrive.

Here is what happened:

Total cost of the repairs will be about £1800 (US$3,400), most of which would be labour on that front quarter. Thank goodness for insurance!

That's only a difference of $600 what Howard was quoted, so I would say the estimate is in the ballpark. Yes, agree Howard, that's why we carry auto insurance. Good luck with the car and hope they get it done as good as the original.

Thanks Tom, I will make sure that it is returned as close to original as they can make it. Luckily my specialist knows I am a picky guy when it comes to originality :-) So the extra effort and expensive of tracking down the NOS wing and headlamp are worth it.

About ?2,650.

The current value of my car in the UK market is about £5,500 (US$10,250), so the repairs to fix it are certainly within the limits that the insurance company considers worthwhile... There is a lot of labour involved in putting the front quarter back to shape, the top edge is 1cm misaligned with the bonnet. Also the bonnet will be repaired - it's easier to replace it but that would not be original :-)

Hi Howard

I am glad you are getting sorted !

I am in the UK too, do you mind telling which company you use for insurance ?

It's always nice to know in ADVANCE ! which ones will pay out !

Thanks

Rich

Yup, the Euro symbol wasn't around when ASCII was written.

We could always use eBay's solution -- GBP 1,800 ~ USD 3,400 ~ EUR 2,800.

I mean about 2800 Euros. ASCII problems replace the Euros symbol by a ? When I said rebuild I was talking about a new paint job new rubbers and new interiors. Of course, when the insurance companies have to pay for the car damages, the repairs are always more expensive. Joao

Yep, the labour work is much more expensive in UK, than in Portugal. When I go to UK I can feel that. I will be in Germany next week and it is also the same problem. The beer is very expensive. I can drink here in Portugal a beer for 1,5 euros on a Pub. I also can't drink wine out side Portugal for the same reason.

Yup, didn't see the Euro dollar sign, thought it was US $$$$$. I was in Brisbane Australia a few years back, thought I do some sightseeing around the city. I happen to walk by a pub early in the morning and heard loud voices. I peeked inside the window and to my surprise found a huge crowd drinking beer and partying. I'm not used to drinking beer in the morning, but the folks (in the land down under) are very friendly as they made sure my glass was always full. I asked if anyone eats breakfast? One fellow stands up on a chair and shouts; "The lad says breakfast Mike, THIS IS OUR BREAKFAST!" and chugs down a whole glass of beer to a cheering crowd. He yells at me across the room; "Now what do ya think of that lad?" I stand up and yell back; "Now that's a breakfast MIKE!" and chugged a beer to the cheering crowd. Pretty awesome friendly people. ps. some of those Australian woman can drink!
