Urgent Alternator problem

Did you make sure to bypass the old external regulator? I had the same problem and the old external regulator was jacking up my new alternator which already had an a built in regulator.

Hi all,

A while back I wrote an message about some wiring troubble, I also mentioned a problem with an alternator comming to a violent end. I have sinced replaced the alternator with the proper model and the same symtoms are re-occuring.

Everything is fine for the first 20 or so miles on the new alternator, then the (G) light comes on. The car has been converted to an altnerator with intergrated voltage regulator. when we re-wired the car we had to redo the conversion with directions from Aircooled.net which were very good and they have confirmed that we followed they're directions properly. If I shut off the car for a while it will take a few minutes of driving before the light returns. My belt deflection is correct and shows no sign of slipping. The last alternator melted down to an amazing cinder since once this problem starts S-12 tends to blow sometimes, and take my idiot lights with it, my partner was driving without me and did not notice.

I am extremely frusterated and running out of ideas.

the one other relavent thing is that although my turn signals work fine, if I try to run my hazards the S-8 fuse blows instantly. I the fusebox wiring is fine, so I am moving onto looking at problems at the hazard switch.

if anyone has any ideas please e-mail me at snipped-for-privacy@hampshire.edu

thanks,

Winter
