I just bought a kit car based on a VW pan with an upright 1600 [?] engine. The seller didn't know anything about the engine, stock[?], crank[?], etc. although it does have dual Webers.
So I'm going to start all over and have an engine built for the car. But it's been about 40 years since I had anything to do with the old uprights and there's stuff out now that we'd only dreamed about back then. So,,,,, I want to have this thing built "right" with the following requirements;
Most importantly,,,, reliability. I want to be able to drive this thing all the way across the country and not worry about scattering the engine. And I want to run A/C.
The car will not be raced, but I'd like to have a bit more than stock hp. I intend to go with a new case [suggestions?], crank [suggestions?], mild cam [suggestions?], heads [suggestions?], electronic ignition [suggestions?], a single carb [for simplicity, suggestions?], a 90+ self regulating alternator [suggestions?], and a oil cooling system that really works [suggestions?]. Within reason, money is not a consideration.
If you were building this engine, what would you put in it? What have I missed? I would really appreciate your input, and thanking you in advance.
Cheers,
