What's the best way to shorten parking brake cables for a buggy??

I've seen them cut and brazed and I've seen the BegPack cable shortening kits. I had an end swaged on at a sailboat rigging shop but it was too long and wouldn't make the turn in the tunnel. How do the cable shortening kits stand up? TIA DOUG
