Wiper Motor - Where Can I Get One?

Hi all!

Where can I get a wiper motor for a 1971 VW Beetle?

Cip1.com and Real Source carry them but are currently out of stock. I was thinking of a local F.L.A.P.S. Two are available. Cardone 431812 WIPER MOTOR Our Price: $69.98 Core Charge: $10.00

and

1971 Beetle Wiper Motor A-1 43-1812 LLT $5.00 $85.59 .

I was wondering if any of you tried either of these and if they held up well. thanks! jp73vwbttl

Check with aircooled.net, John can probably set you up with new one. If not, the prices listed below are for the exact same part(these are reman units, FYI), so go with the cheaper price obviously. "Cardone" is actally "A1 Cardone". I've used their stuff before for other applications(watercooled cars of a japanese origin :) without any complaints.

I've never personally taken a wiper motor assembly apart(mine still works, knock on wood) but it's my understanding that assuming you can find brushes and possibly have the armature turned down, cleaning them up and reassembling is a fairly straightforward job. Might want to check with any local electric motor repair shops. I would imagine that they could get you the brushes and machine the armature(if it was needed) for a lot less than 70 bucks.

Heck I'm sure you can get a good working used one for less than $20 easily. Hell I've got one or two here if needed. Mark Detro Englewood, FL

I have a '73 VW Beetle, but it has a 1971 wiper motor and a 1971 wiper motor switch so I ordered a 1971 wiper motor.

I installed it on Labor Day 2004. I also installed a wiper motor on our '87 Ford F-150 pickup. It works fine but when I turn off the wiper switch, the wipers do not return like they should. What could it be? Should I check both ends of the ground strap? thanks! Sorry, I know I should of asked this question in the Detroit Iron pickups group. Any help is appreciated! jplikesm73vwbttl
