wood panels and dash

Has anyone every tried to use wood for the door panels and dash. Eventually my 72 beetle will be black and I thought that a dark cherry toned wood interior with chrome and black accents would be cool. My guess is it would have to be some laminate type of stuff due to the weather changes from season to season and I wouldn't want it to split, warp, and would have to be thin. Any ideas?

the headliner and interior panels on my 67 westy is wood and has held up very well after 40 yrs.

In fact I'm going to replace all the viner with real wood.

Empi made real wood dash panels, I have a set still in the package but not sure I want to sell.
