You must mean the XC. I love mine. I did just get a recall on the cooling fan motor. It seems it can fail in the on state and run until it overheats or runs the battery down. I haven't had any problems, but will take it in for the recall.

Viscous coupling is only on the AWD which was only in the '01 V70 XC. If there had been a '01 V70 AWD I would have bought it.

And the engines were 2.4M (168 HP), 2.4T (197 HP) or [2.3 liter]T5 (247 HP). There was no 2.5T. The V70 XC was a 2.4T.

Also, to "pull the trigger" usually means to shoot or kill. It is not clear what you are trying to say.

oh...i may have my facts wrong....the v70 i am looking at is front wheel drive (ni vic coupeling, i guess) 2.4t...not the t5....i ment "complete the deal and purchase" when i said "pull the trigger"...maybe a poor choice of words ;-)

so, i guess it is only the xc's w/vic coupelings that one needs to be careful w/the 99/00/01 mdls and flats, or mis matched tyres...ea?

the 01 v70 looks like a nice wagon for the $$....i'll let you all know how the deal ends up...

They didn't make a V70 AWD until 2002. It was the 2002 V70 4 Dr Turbo AWD Wagon. It was a 2.4T. The 2001 AWD was only the V70 XC AWD. Maybe he had a 2002 model with a 2001 first title. That could have easily happened.

He didn't pull the trigger on a purchase, he pulled the trigger on a car. I wouldn't want to be in it. It was an "in grate" so that is consistent.

Here is what we have in the USA:

1999 S70/V70/C70: Volvo's first all-wheel drive sedan debuts.

2000 S70/V70/V70XC: The V70 AWD and V70 T-5 were discontinued. The V70XC became the only AWD.

2001 V70/V70XC: The new V70 shares its platform with the S80.

2002 V70/XC: A V70 AWD model was offered -- minus the armor and raised suspension of Volvo's Cross Country.

Friends of mine have the same car, 2001 V70, 2.4T motor, front drive... Aside from failure of their DSTC system (not a well known fault) and software updates at almost every service for the first couple years, they love it... and it's been very reliable.

Has over 170K kms on it now, and it's as tight/solid as the day they got it (I rode in it when it was fairly new)... One speaker has a little rattle, but that's about it for interior faults.

What you mean European deliveries? Aren't they all European deliveries?

I was in Phila Nov 2002 through Jan 2004 and got my V70 2,5T as european delivery but US spec. It was delivered by StillmanVolvo in West Chester, excellent service, especially by Yannis Alatzas (not sure if fam. name right).

Now that car is in Finland and running good.

European Delivery is a program run by Volvo of North America where North Americans can pick up their cars in Europe. It includes quite a large discount (15-20%), plane tickets, a hotel in Europe, and (Best of all) you can order a custom build, not just get what Volvo wants to ship to the USA. For example, I never get a sun roof or leather since cars with sun roofs eventually leak and the fabric seats hold up better and are cooler than the leather. I got a sun roof once and leather seats once and never again for either. I keep my cars 120,00 to 180,000 miles.

Also European Delivery includes the European license plate and registration, one months insurance in Europe, and free home delivery and free duty. All you have to pay when you pick it up is your state registration, license plate and sales tax.
