240 Bumper

The right rear bumper on my 88 245 is suddenly not aligned to the car. It is level, but the right side is about an inch farther from the car, relative to the left. It would appear the right has moved out, as some of the trim above the bumper has seperated on that side. I can't find any way to move it back in.

Suggestions?

Either the bumper shock absorber has failed somehow and popped out, or someone has backed into the left side and pushed it in. You'll need to replace one or both of the bumper shocks, should be cheap from a salvage yard, and no special tools are needed to replace them, except you need a largish wrench or socket to remove the bolts that go down through the frame from the cargo compartment.

Yes, remove the bumper via undoing the bolts that attach the shock absorber/attachment points to the car, but do that BEFORE you buy a replacement bumper shock.

Remove the bumper then inspect it to find out what is wrong.

You may need more than or something other than a bumper shock.
