340 turn indicator relay location

I have a Volvo 340DL 1.4 from 1986 (250K Km)

The turn lights and emergency indicator have stopped working

- stopped working for several days, worked for a few hours, and then stopped working again

- There is no ticking sound, so I think the relay might have a fault (have checked the fuses)

Could there be other causes ? Where will I find the relay, and is it easy to change yourself (I'm not a very technical guy), Is there and illustration on the Web some where ?

Thanks, KL

The relays are normally quite reliable, but most are located behind the instrument panel clipped onto the steering column bracked and strengthening bars. There are a few in the fuse box, but I can't remember which ones do the indicator.

I had a similar problem once where the dash and engine wouldn't work atall intermittently. Turned out to be a burnt contact between the fuse box and block connector on the inside of the car. Try pushing the wiring around behind the dash, or tapping the relays.

If you want to do any work on a car you need a workshop manual, this will have the wiring diagram, although is not that good at telling you where stuff you can follow the wiring generally, and test with a low wattage bulb.

Found it ! You were right, it's behind the instrument panel, accessible by removing the cover above the pedals. There were a few with four legs on the relay (lights I think), this one had three legs. Changed it and now the turn light works again :-) Thanks.
