740 Series Volvo Bertone Coupe?

Saw one of these parked around here recently. 740 Series body with low roofline, large coupe doors, and Bertone badges. Nice leather interior. Rear deck lid has COUPE logo instead of the usual 740 series number. Had a factory third brake light in the rear window, so I assume it's at least 1986 or later year. Front grille egg crate style of early 740 series. Very nice "lace" alloys that appear to be factory originals. Never seen one before..how common are these? Equipped with what engine? A 740 series follow on to the 262C?

That's the 780. In 1991 they were called "Coupe". It's basically a slightly restyled 740 with 2 doors, a 760 dash and rear suspension, and a unique, fancy interior. They used the 760 V6 from 87-90 and the turbo

4 from 89 to 91.

The 780's were V6's powerded by Renalut engines, the same as in the DeLorens. Stay away from them. It is the worst engine I have ever worked on. The same as the 760 non-turbo.

The V6 was updated in 1987 models and much improved from the earlier version as used in Volvos and the DeLorean. It's only remaining flaw was a slight tendency for minor oil and water leaks.

Not very common at all.

PRV V-6 early on, I think it went to the turbo-4 late in life.

Yes. Built with fine Italian steel by Bertone just like the 262C. It was called the 742

Come on John, loose the typos mate. It is a 780 (782 on the VIN).

Cheers, Peter.

Only some of them were, the majority of the half dozen or so I've seen in person have been B230FT powered.
