740GL '87 fog-lights removal. What parts and relay?

Dear All,

Finally this saturday my 740 is going to be turned in with over 850.000 Km's on the clock, to have it's place taken in by a '92 945 with 250K Km.

Now I am taking out the fog lights from the 740 and can't find the original mounting instruction AND my Vadis Setup CD won't setup.

I already removed the lamps and the cabling under the hood. Also the switch has been taken out. I know there has to be a relay to, but wich? Also I'm curious if from the switch there was a cable going under neath the dash somewhere. Does it belong to the kit or to the car (white and yellow) and if it belongs to the kit, where is the other end?

Thanx in advance. If anyone could provide me with a copy of the Vadis Setup CD, I'd be most happy. The install cd and data CD's still work.

A DVD copy would also be really appreciated, but not necessary.

If its the same setup as my (UK) 89 740, follow the cabling from the switch to the fuse box, this will point you to which relay. on mine the relay un-plugs and then the relay base un-clips from the fuse box.

The relay base will have wires leading to terminals on the fuse box. (a + a- and one to the I think dipped beam fuse) also one leading to the passenger side (UK) foot well (by the air vent) linking it into the loom that goes to the engine bay.

From what I saw on my 89 it definatly an add on kit.

Hope this helps

Steve

Is it wise to exchange a proven car for a flashy new one you'll need to break in ? ;-)

Why bother with the switch? The 240 uses a different one. The relay is in the fuse panel with the rest of the relays, if it were me I'd just buy a new relay with a matching socket, it'd be easier and not very expensive.

Must have been a real tough call.... I would have tried for 1 Million K Kms just for the hell of it if it was a mere 150K left (maybe got a spare

740/940 incase the milestone machine exploded or something tho...)

Would have, if my wife would have let me, but when I was changing the interior (chairs, backseat and carpet out) she started complaining about it being an unrepresentative car to show up at birthdays and stuff.

Also, the needed repair was a leakage between the auto tranny and the engine, after one of the bolts broke of years ago. At that point it was leaking tranny-fluid. I had my dealer work on it years ago and they kind a fixed it in a cheap kind of way. I was warned it wouldn't last (it did for five years though!).

Just decided the 740 is gonna be turned in for a new (91) 740 with 250K km's on the odo for my brother. I bought a perfect condition 940 sedan from 1991 from my dealer wich was due for export or wreckage because of to much cars on the park. I bought it for 300 euro's (kilo price for Iron or something in that area, dealer is a friend) and propably turn it in at other dealer next week for a 92 940 wagon automatic on LPG and 250K Km's on the clock.

Thanks for the response by the way. I had a spare 740 for 500 guilders (approx 250 euro's) here for a while, wich I took quite a lot of spare parts from. I had to let it go, once again, because my wife doesn't want our backyard to look as a wrekking yard. We still don't have a garage. (I'll keep on saving money till i can get a decend size double garage with basement and attick. Then my volvo hobby really starts!!!! Wife, beware!!!)

Unrepresentative of what? If you've already changed out the interior and the body isn't bad, is a newer 740/940 really gonna be much different?
