850 ABS good in COLD weather

In COLD weather the ABS light stays off. As soon as the weather warms up, the light comes on. My mechanic ( a bright guy ) says the PCB board is failing on the ABS ECU, and in cold weather, resistance is lower, hence no light. FWIW: the volvo dealer (!?!) said the code was the right rear wheel sensor (see bay13) and basically this indicates the ABS ECU rather than the wheel sensor. Hello cold weather!

This is apparently a very common fault on 850s. I've even heard it happens on S/V70s but I've been lucky so far. In fact if the Toronto weather stays the way it is now I may not ever need my ABS this winter!!

It seems that probably every 850 ABS controller is going to fail. The failure/replacement rate reported on various web sites is through the roof.

Our '96 made it to 90k miles and six years before the thing failed, which still seems much too soon for a $500 part.

Of course Volvo has done nothing to address the issue except to collect money for replacement parts.

Apparently Volvo is enjoying collecting our money!
