93 240 brake lights stuck on

I searched the posts but did not find info on this problem.  Just
bought a 93 240 wagon and the brake lights have started staying on
recently.  If the key is removed brake lights work nornally with relay
clicking when brake is depressed, and again when released.  Turn the
key on and brake lights come on when pedal is depressed, but when
released the brake lights stay on, and there is no "click" from the
relay.  any help would be greatly appreciated.
