96 850 wagon Interior light controls broke

Hello All

I have a 1996 850 wagon with a sunroof. The interior light control switch, the three switchses mounted by the rear view mirror, fell out a few days ago. The middle switch fell apart and now I have no interior lights.

My questions Is this a difficult to replace part? Could I go to a you-pull-it yard and do this myself?

How much should I expect to pay for a replacement?

No.

Could I go to a you-pull-it yard

Sure. Although you might have to look at a few to find a good one. The plastic may have become brittle on some that have set out in the sun.

My guess - $50.00 maximum. For comparison check the price on a new one at your Volvo dealer.

I replaced that POS construction on our '96 850 several years ago. It has been long enough that I don't remember the exact removal procedure or the cost. Seems like the replacement unit was around $70. I wouldn't be too excited about a junkyard sourced part unless you plan to ditch the car soon or can find one which obviously was replaced once already. These assemblies use small internal plastic nibs as mechanical pivot points and they eventually go poof!

Thanks to all for the replies.

I was able to find a good used one from Voluparts in Georgia. I paid $40.00 US plus $7.00 shipping. The unit is clean and functional. I'll install it tomorrow.
