enough. I have been over that bridge already. I always make sure it
clicks audibly when refueling. I have also in the past, when this
light first started being a problem, had the light reset by a mechanic
just in case it was the gas cap/refueling issue. The light came back
on.
I am worried about this because I will have to have the car
inspected. It will be a problem, will it not, if the "check engine"
light is on with regard to passing inspection?
Re: '98 V70 GLT "check engine" light - do not believe it is the gas cap
That depends where you are.
Exactly what code are you getting? If it is an evaporative system code
you could have a bad solenoid valve in the system, which can be
checked by the dealer - a bad vent line, a corroded fuel filler line,
a bad fuel cap, or a rusted filler where the cap needs to seal (and
cannot).
In regards to the solenoid valves - it can be an electrical failure, a
mechanical failure, a wiring problem, or even a control problem (the
"driver" in the computer blown, for example".
BASICALLY - a 440, 442,455 or 456 code indicates a system leak
somewhere, while a 446 indicares a vent solenoid/system problem, a 443
is a purge valve/system problem, and a 453 is a high pressure problem
- which can be a sensor, vent, or purge problem and often occurs with
either a 443 or 446.
The 445 is the most common "loose cap" code.
