Couple of 940 questions - headlights stay on, fuel gadge is pinned

1993 940T The headlights stay on when the ignitions switch is turned off. Is this a relay controlled thing?

The fuel gadge is pinned down below E most of the time. At one point I looked at it and it was floating a Full. Any suggestions?

Thanks hbo

It's supposed to happen. If you don't like it replace the switch with one from France.

It's old, they all do that eventually. You could take the dash off and check all the connections, or you could reset the trip meter every time you fill up and go fill up again at 400 miles (plenty of leeway there).

I think you have the headlight information incorrect, Groovy. When you switch the ignition off the headlights should go off as well. You can only select headlights (dipped or main) with ignition on. With ignition off you should only be able to use side/tail lights or DRLs ( dimmed/dipped beams and side/tails).

Cheers, Peter.

Quite correct Peter, I just didn't read the question properly. Guess I failed that exam.

I just got this car, it seems to have had an electrical lobotomy of sorts. When I turn the ignition off the heated seat pilot light stays on if the switch is on (neither seat works). The courtesy lamp between the seats in the back seat behind the center console stays on and the lamp indicator on the dash board stays lit at half brilliance.

Other than that it's in pretty good shape.

Sounds like something in that centre console is leaking volts to the earth. I would take the console out and look for frayed insulation.

Thats ambitious, I get 24MPG (uk), I'm in the reserve at 360miles.

Wow. I get 450 normally with 500+ on a long run through France.

Just thinking out loud. The door open switch is powered with the ignition off, this in linked to the light in the centre console. I wonder if a quick check of the door open switches would be helpful.
