Cross fitting Volvo Alloys

Hi,

I'm looking for a set of Volvo alloys for my 940, which other Volvo model wheels will fit my motor?

I'm looking at a set of V70 alloys at the moment......

You'll need wheels from a RWD Volvo for your 940, the FWD offset is significantly different. You also likely need at least 15" wheels, I've heard rumors the older ones though, such as the 240 Virgos won't fit on

700/900 cars that have ABS.

Hi James,

I don't know how this started, 14" wheels being incompatible with ABS. Our '93 240 Classic wagon came from the factory with 14" mags AND ABS.

The original poster was asking about a 900 series, they use a larger disc than the 200 series some 15" alloys won't fit. Dave Shannon daveshan_at_spamsoneonelse_cox.net (Spring Valley CA)

You can fit a set of FWD alloys on your RWD Volvo if you buy a spacer kit to make up for the different offset. _________________ Will '90 Volvo 744 GLT B230F converted to B230FB (531 Head & VX3 Cam)

This is a 900 series. The 700/900 series ABS cars used a larger brake disc in front, I've tried 14" wheels (snows) on my 740 and they don't fit in front.

Yes you can use spacers, but this both hard on wheel bearings and not particularly safe. I'm sure it's possible to do it, but I wouldn't trust the majority of the products out there designed to do so.

I think you need to be looking at late model 740/760, any 940 or 960 alloy wheels. V70/850 wheels will have the wrong offset.

Actually, wheel spacers that place the centre of the wheel back in the same place relative to the hub as the standard wheels won't increase the load on the wheel bearings. They will, however, increase the stress on wheel studs and the flange of the hub. If you were to use adapters that bolt onto the hub as per a wheel, and have another set of studs sticking out of them to which the wheel bolts, then as long as those adapters were made right, there wouldn't be a problem.

Cheers to all,

I've found a set of 960 16" rims down in Southampton, as long as the price is right..........

Any 15" 700 or 940 wheels will do as will early 960 wheels The offset was changed about 1995 on 960s so late models and S/V90 wheels will not do.

Cheers, Peter.

You will need any 15" wheels from 700/940 or earlier versions of 960. About 1995 the wheels were changed with the front suspension so later wheels and S/V909 wheels will not do. Whereabouts are you based? I might be able to help.

Cheers, Peter.

I think there is a problem trying to fit FWD wheels to a RWD Volvo, but I am not sure of the details. Check
