gas economy issues on 1989 volvo 740 turbo 4 cyl. wagon with over 280.000.oo mil

my 1989 Volvo 2.3 4cyl. turbo wagon spend or is burning way too much gas even do I know it got over two''280.000.00 hundredan eighty thousands miles on it I still think is too much gas spending I drove may b like a 100 hundred miles a week and I fill it up 2 or 3 times a week even when I replace motor oil an filter''a mann oil an air filters new bosch oxygen sensor''new bosch ignition wires set '' new 4 e-3 spark plugs '' new timing belt an on 12 degrees I also put premium gas and still burns the same fast way so I need some advice s and see if I have to replace wat other parts to make it a better gas guuzler or economic thankx and a blessed weekend to all I deardly appreciated thank you's

I would expect that vehicle to get 20-23 mpg in mixed driving and 25 on the highway, unless you really have a leadfoot. It's got a 15 gallon fuel tank, so at 100 miles per week you shouldn't need to fill up more than every three weeks or so.

I would start with two things. First, I'd look for a gasoline leak because you're using a crazy amount of gas (30-45 gallons to go 100 miles?). If there is no leak, I'd look for signs that the car is being siphoned. Second, I'd check the onboard computer for any stored codes; there are plenty of places to find the instructions and get a list of the codes. Third, I'd check for dragging brakes.

Does it run well- good power, good acceleration, smooth idle? If it runs badly I'd check the air mass meter for failure. After that, maybe a compression test.

Don't forget to check the fuel pressure regulator. Pull the hose off and see if there's gas dribbling out (off), or squirting (running). If the diaphragm inside splits, gas is sucked through the vacuum hose directly into the intake manifold.
